The Flag Within

この素晴らしい日本に生まれたことを、
深く感謝し、誇りに思う。

強くあることは、
誰かを踏み越えることではない。
真っすぐであることは、
人を蹴落とさずに立ち続けることだ。

手を取り合うこと。
敬意を忘れないこと。
静かに、正しく、生きていくこと。

派手な勝利より、
「ありがとう」が残る一日を選びたい。

感謝とは、弱さではない。
それは、この国に生まれた者が持てる
最も美しい強さだと思う。

今日もまた、ありがとう。
その一言で、人生は少しだけ美しくなる。

I am deeply grateful,
and proud,
to have been born in this beautiful Japan.

To be strong
is not to step over others.
To live straight
is to keep standing
without pushing anyone down.

To take each other’s hands.
To never forget respect.
To live quietly,
rightly,
and with dignity.

More than a loud victory,
I want to choose a day
that leaves behind
the word
“thank you.”

Gratitude is not weakness.
I believe it is
one of the most beautiful forms of strength
a person born in this country can carry.

That single phrase
makes life a little more beautiful.
