There are moments in life
that make you tremble only years later.

The Kanie days.

Fifteen tsubo.

I was nobody.

No guarantees.
No reason to believe.

And yet,
I believed in my own future.

Looking back,
I think I was insane.

I stared at places beyond my reach
and decided I would get there.

I fed on frustration,
turned solitude into fuel,
and kept moving forward.

Back then,
what I wanted was success.

I wanted to be recognized.
I wanted to rise.
I refused to lose.

But after walking this road
for more than twenty-four years,
I have finally come to understand something.

The greatest joy in life
does not exist only
in the moment we obtain something.

It comes when we look back
from a future that once seemed impossible,

and realize that the days
no one understood us,

the time that seemed to bring no reward,

and the self who believed
with almost irrational conviction,

have all become
one unbroken line.

Only then
does the past find its meaning.

Even now,
just remembering those days
makes something deep inside me tremble.

The person I was
in that fifteen-tsubo shop
had no idea what awaited him.

Still,
he believed.

Perhaps life
is not simply about moving toward the future.

Perhaps it is about accumulating todays
that one day,
looking back from the future,
we can say,

“I’m glad I lived through that day.”

Joy is not an arrival.

It is the moment you realize
that all the years you kept believing
have become your life.
