2017年。
ZODIACで、一足の靴をつくった。

イタリアのENZO BONAFE。
シューズデザイナーの坪内浩さん。
そして、ZODIAC。

坪さんとは、同じ名古屋出身というご縁。
靴の話はもちろん、洋服の話、昔の話、とんかつの話まで。

ベースに選んだのは、EB-02。
坪さんが日本でENZO BONAFEを展開し始めた頃からの、思い入れのあるダブルモンク。

ボナウド社のミュージアムカーフ。
選んだ色は、PEWTER。
黒でもなく、茶でもない。光によって表情を変える、何とも言えない美しい色。

名古屋を意識したゴールドのバックル。
手仕事の力強さが際立つ、ノルベジェーゼ製法。
クラシックの品格を残しながら、どこか無骨で、少し色気がある。

ただ上品なだけでは、つまらない。
そんな感覚は、あの頃から変わっていない。

インソールには、

三つの名前が刻まれている。

あれから、九年。

今、こうして写真を見ても、やっぱりカッコいい。
PEWTERの色も、ノルベジェーゼの佇まいも、何ひとつ古く感じない。

けれど、何より嬉しいのは、この靴を見れば、当時の人たちや交わした会話を思い出せること。

洋服屋を続けていると、こういう一足に出会える。

いい靴をつくった。その思い出まで、いい。

In 2017, we created a pair of shoes at ZODIAC.

ENZO BONAFE, the Italian shoemaker.
Hiroshi Tsubouchi, the shoe designer.
And ZODIAC.

Tsubo-san and I shared a connection
through our hometown, Nagoya.
We talked about shoes, of course,
but also clothes, old times, and even tonkatsu.

The model we chose was the EB-02.
A double monk strap that had held a special place
in Tsubo-san’s heart since his early days
of introducing ENZO BONAFE to Japan.

Bonaudo Museum Calf leather.
The color we chose was PEWTER.
Neither black nor brown.
A beautiful, elusive shade
that changes its character with the light.

Gold buckles chosen with Nagoya in mind.
The rugged strength of hand-crafted
Norwegian welted construction.
Classic elegance, yet somehow rugged,
with just a touch of sensuality.

Elegance alone has never been enough.
That feeling hasn’t changed since those days.

Inside the shoes, the inscription reads:

Three names, etched together.

Nine years have passed.

Even looking at these photographs today,
I still think they look incredible.
The color of PEWTER, the character
of the Norwegian welted construction.
Nothing about them feels dated.

But what makes me happiest is that these shoes
still bring back the people who were there
and the conversations we shared.

When you spend your life in this business,
sometimes a pair of shoes like this comes along.

We made a great pair of shoes.
And the memories are just as good.
