2050年。七十五歳になる年。
まだ、黒い服を並べているだろうか。

その頃には、あらゆる選択が最適化され、
人と会わずに、何でも手に入るのかもしれない。

それでも、誰かが扉を開ける。
年を重ねた顔を見合わせ、
「元気だった？」と、笑い合う。

利便の極致が、幸福とは限らない。
わざわざ会いに行くという非合理にこそ、
人間の優しさが残るのかもしれない。

そんな人間が、まだいるなら。
未来も、案外悪くない。

The year I turn seventy-five.
Will I still be surrounded by black clothes?

By then, every choice may be optimized,
and everything may be available
without ever meeting another person.

And yet, someone still opens the door.
We look at each other’s aging faces,
smile, and ask, “How have you been?”

The ultimate convenience is not necessarily happiness.
Perhaps human kindness survives
in the seeming irrationality of going
out of one’s way to see someone.

If people like that still exist,
perhaps the future won’t be so bad after all.
