そんな文章を書いた後に、
「東京から、
わざわざ会いに行って本当に良かった。」
という言葉をいただいた。
その言葉は、
不思議なくらい長く心に残っている。
2018年10月。
一着の革を見に来るためだけなら、
もっと近くに店はあったかもしれない。
それでもその人は、
時間を使い、
距離を越え、
この場所まで足を運んでくれた。
そこで出会ったのが、
Georges de Patricia Carrera。
だが今思えば、
手にしたのは革ではなかったのだと思う。
8年近い時間の中で、
Carreraは傷を受け、
艶を深め、
持ち主の人生と共に歩いてきた。
そして同じように、
あの日交わした言葉や、
笑った時間もまた、
静かに育ち続けていた。
物には寿命がある。
流行にも終わりがある。
けれど、
人が誰かに会いに行ったという事実だけは、
不思議なほど色褪せない。
なぜ人は、
わざわざ会いに行くのだろう。
その答えはきっと、
時間が経った後にしか分からない。
「10年後も、残したい物。」
それは、
革かもしれない。
時計かもしれない。
写真かもしれない。
だが本当に残るのは、
その物を通して生まれた、
人との縁であり、
共に過ごした時間なのだと思う。
残る物とは、
革でもない。
銀でもない。
人と人が出会い、
同じ時間を生きた記憶である。
そしてその記憶こそが、
人生を静かに支え続ける、
本当の財産なのだと思う。
After writing,
“What Would You Still Keep Ten Years From Now?”
I received a message.
It simply said,
“I’m truly glad I made the trip all the way from Tokyo.”
For some reason,
those words stayed with me
far longer than I expected.
October, 2018.
If it had only been about seeing
a leather jacket,
there were probably stores much closer.
And yet,
he chose to spend the time,
cross the distance,
and come all the way here.
That was when he encountered
Georges de Patricia Carrera.
But looking back now,
I do not think
what he took home was leather.
Over nearly eight years,
the Carrera collected scars,
gained depth,
and walked alongside its owner’s life.
And in the same way,
the words exchanged that day,
and the moments of laughter,
quietly continued to mature as well.
Objects have a lifespan.
Trends eventually fade.
Yet somehow,
the simple act of going to meet someone
never seems to lose its color.
Why do people choose
to make the trip?
The answer, perhaps,
can only be understood
after enough time has passed.
“What Would You Still Keep Ten Years From Now?”
Perhaps it is leather.
Perhaps it is a watch.
Perhaps it is a photograph.
But what truly remains
is the bond created through those objects,
and the time shared because of them.
What remains is not leather.
It is not silver.
It is the memory of people meeting,
and living through the same moments together.
And those memories,
more than anything else,
become the quiet wealth
that continues to support a life.
