存在しなかった記憶。

九〇年代の終わり頃。

店の奥。

一着のレザージャケットだけが、

何年も、
同じ場所に掛かっていた。

誰も袖を通さない。

誰も値札を探さない。

それでも、

男は、
その一着だけは動かさなかった。

深く刻まれた皺。

袖口の擦れ。

肘に残る癖。

新品にはない、

静かな重みがあった。

「あれは、
売り物ですか。」

初めて訪れた人が、
尋ねる。

男は、

革を見つめたまま、

小さく首を振る。

「違います。」

それだけだった。

誰が着ていたのか。

どこへ行ったのか。

もう、
この世にいるのかさえ、

男は語らない。

けれど、

革だけは、
知っていた。

雨に濡れた日も。

誰かを失った夜も。

胸を張って歩いた朝も。

何も言えなかった夕暮れも。

その一着は、

何ひとつ忘れていなかった。

革は、

時間を拒まない。

傷を隠さない。

生きた時間を、

そのまま受け入れていく。

男は、

新品を勧める前に、

ときどき、
その一着へ視線を向ける。

そして、

ただ一言だけ言う。

「急がなくて大丈夫です。」

その言葉は、

服のことではなかった。

革は、

急いで完成するものではない。

人もまた、

急いで完成するものではない。

帰り際。

その人は、

新品ではなく、

壁に掛かった一着を、

もう一度だけ見上げた。

その日、

持ち帰ったのは、

レザージャケットではない。

これから先、

自分だけの時間だった。

重たい扉が閉まる。

店の中に、

また静けさが戻る。

男は、

何も言わない。

壁に掛かった革も、

何も言わない。

けれど、

あの店で、

いちばん長く、

いちばん深く、

時間を語っていたのは、

いつも、

あの一着だった。




A memory that never existed.

Toward the end of the 1990s.

At the back of the shop,

there was a single leather jacket

that had hung
in the very same place
for years.

No one tried it on.

No one looked
for a price tag.

And yet,

the man

never moved it.

Deep creases.

Worn cuffs.

The shape left behind
at the elbows.

It carried

a quiet weight

that no new jacket ever could.

“Is that one
for sale?”

A first-time visitor asked.

The man

kept his eyes
on the leather,

then gently
shook his head.

“No.”

That was all.

Who had worn it.

Where they had gone.

Whether they were
still alive.

The man
never spoke of it.

But the leather

remembered.

The days
it had been soaked by rain.

The nights
someone had lost
what mattered most.

The mornings
someone walked proudly.

The evenings
when no words
could be found.

It had forgotten

nothing.

Leather

does not resist time.

It does not hide
its scars.

It simply accepts

the life
that has been lived.

Before recommending
a new jacket,

the man

would sometimes

look quietly
toward that one.

Then he would say
just a single sentence.

“There is no need to rush.”

He was never
talking about the jacket.

Leather

is not meant
to be completed
in a hurry.

Neither are people.

As the visitor
prepared to leave,

their eyes returned

not to the new jacket,

but to the one
hanging silently
on the wall.

That day,

what they carried home

was not
a leather jacket.

It was

the beginning

of their own time.

The heavy door closed.

Silence

returned once again
to the shop.

The man

said nothing.

The leather

said nothing.

And yet,

inside that shop,

the one
that had spoken
of time

the longest,

and the deepest,

had always been

that single jacket.
